Microsites - Target your audience

Posted: 05 Sep 09 at 08:09 Microsites if you've heard of them are an interesting concept. Agreed? If you haven't heard of them, here's the low-down:

Your website is packed full of lots of really helpful information. But by having so much of it in one place a user can get lost. Also, you're trying to get your domain name and the content of your website to cater for all aspects of your business to try and improve its search engine results.

But microsites seem to be a good answer, so I've learnt.

Say you can divide your business into separate categories - you are prospecting to several different types of clients, or offering many different services. Then have a website for each one, just to bring in the potential clients. Your search engine rank can hang on the keywords in your domain name. You can target your market to that specific site. You can launch marketing campaigns and have the exact knowledge base for that area of your business that people can go to.

And then you link them back to your main site where they will be able to discover all of the other services you have to offer.

Sounds tempting, doesn't it?

Well I decided to set this service up for one of our clients, Wrightwell Editorial Services. The freelance copywriting business has many different areas of writing that they cater for. So we have looked at b2b (business to business) and technology copywriting as two specific areas that someone might be looking for. We've also then decided to target our audience by location and so have chosen "surrey copywriting".

The client is currently putting together the content of their microsites so that they can expand and really target those markets. We'll then use keywords within pages to link people back to the main site.

We're working on trying to improve the results for specific keywords that people put into search engines and have a better chance of directing users to that copy.

Sounds like something your business would like to do with their online campaigns/websites? Well if you have the resources give it a try for yourself, otherwise Get in Contact with us and we'll be happy to talk to you about the options available to your business.
